Patterns & Kits

What yarn can I use?

Our felted knitting patterns require 100% wool, 100% alpaca or 75% or more wool with mohair blend. We've successfully used Cascade 220, Ella Rae, Plymouth Galway, Patons Classic Wool and Brown Sheep's Nature Spun and Lamb's Pride.

I've heard white wool yarn can't be felted, is this true?

Bleached white wool won't felt well, if at all - the bleaching process damages the wool fiber and keeps it from felting. However, natural white/cream yarns do felt.

I've never knit before, can I start with one of your patterns?

We recommend starting with a basic project like a scarf so that you can get used to the stitches and yarn tension.

I've never felted before, what is felting?

Felting, or fulling, is the process of matting wool fibers together. When wool is exposed to the right conditions (water, soap, heat & agitation), the wool fibers latch on to nearby fibers and pull them together. If you've "accidentally" shrunk a wool sweater in the wash, then you've already felted your first project!

Do you have any knitting instructions for beginners?

Currently, CraftyAlien.com does not have instructions, but we'll be adding them in the future!

Are there any crocheted patterns?

Not yet! But we'll have traditional crocheted amigurumi patterns soon.

Where can I find pattern errata & corrections?

Oops! Email us at orders [at] craftyalien.com for updates. Please email your order number, email address that you placed the order with and the approximate date that you ordered and we'll send an update if it's available.

Can I sell items I made from your patterns?

Crafty Alien designs patterns for personal use only. You can give your designs to a friend or family member.

Can I bring copies of your pattern to my knitting group?

You can bring your copy for your personal use, but copying the pattern is against the law. Please make sure everyone purchases their own pattern if they want to knit the items. Crafty Alien works hard to design patterns and sell them at a reasonable price. If everyone copies patterns, this Crafty Alien won't find pattern making as a viable source of income and stop selling or creating new patterns. Support your independent designers!
